June 5, 2011 at 8:23 pm (14 years ago)Oh Kelly!!!! ROFL, so sorry but your writing just cracks me up!! You should put the empties back in there with a thinly-veiled threat about being grounded for the next 10 years 😉 Ughh.. not looking forward to the teenage years! Good luck and so glad you’ve got a blog now!!

June 5, 2011 at 8:27 pm (14 years ago)This is such an awesome LO Kelly!! I’ve had my eye on that Sticky-Back Canvas for a while now, think I’m going to bump it up on the wish list after seeing this! It’s really beautiful and creative 🙂

June 6, 2011 at 12:40 am (14 years ago)Kelly this is so gorgeous. I am a quilter and I can see where some of my quilt skills could be transitioned into this medium. Thanks for the tutorial and look forward to the next one. And BTW I am still working on my 1st blog, checking out others and research etc. It’s a real job!??! Congrats on getting yours going!

June 6, 2011 at 8:52 am (14 years ago)Oh Kelly – what a nightmare! It is hilarious that you would link the beer & the bear. Glad to hear you got rid of his “stash” and yes, of course you can blame it on his dad! Keep up the good work – I can’t wait for your next post.
Sandra D
June 6, 2011 at 8:54 am (14 years ago)Congratulations Kelly – the wait was worth it! You have done a fabulous job on your first post – a layout, a tutorial and great writing. I am so proud of you and can’t wait to read and see more of your beautiful work.

June 8, 2011 at 12:34 pm (14 years ago)You are so funny… yet I feel bad that you are stressed! This definitely does not make me look forward to the teenage years. And now why I see why you have so little time to scrap. Having teens will keep you busy! Tell him that you have to drink all of his beer because he is underage. LOL Many hugs xoxo

June 8, 2011 at 2:12 pm (14 years ago)Good for you Kelly…learn to enjoy and savor that one day a month. It provides you with a little “me time” which we all need from time to time. It will also make your family realize just how much you do for them. Enjoy my friend and soak in that bubble bath until you shrivel up like a prune!
Sandi
Natasha

June 9, 2011 at 10:15 am (14 years ago)Oh sweetie your sense of humor is what is gonna keep you going… it seems like the world will end with teenagers right now, but believe it or not there will come a time when you will tell this story and laugh and really think it is funny! It might be when he is a grown man with teenagers of his own and comes to you for advise… and you just laugh!!! I wouldn’t go back for anything but life is short and he will grow up… I know because I now have a teenage grandaughter doing the same things and when her mother (my daughter) calls… I just laugh!
Natasha
June 9, 2011 at 10:51 am (14 years ago)Hahahaha! That is too funny! Where DOES she get it from??? Hmmmmmm… LOL. I was doing the same until I realized that I had YEARS worth of magazines that I never once reread a second time. :o)
Sandra D

June 16, 2011 at 6:26 pm (14 years ago)Chris says I’m creepin and since he drives like his Daddy (the photographer out to be the first at a scene) I tend to scream. “Stop”, “Slow down”, “I’m not paying your ticket”. Honestly, I just want us to make it home alive. . . where I break out the White Zinfandel.

June 19, 2011 at 6:40 pm (14 years ago)Amen! This Father’s Day morning, Bob got a call from Chris (who now lives in an apartment 3 miles away with 2 other “boys”) that his car would not start. Bob went right over and the car started. I’m glad Chris gave his Dad a present yesterday (courtesy of Mom transferring money electronically into his account so he’d have the funds). I’m still waiting for the other son to call his Dad. . .

July 13, 2011 at 12:13 pm (14 years ago)LOL—this story kind of reminds me of one winter when my dad followed footprints in the backyard, only to discover a case of beer buried under the freshly fallen snow. My 16 year old brother was so busted….lol My brother is 50 now but still it’s one of our favorite ‘busted’ memories. I won’t even go into any of mine =)
janine
July 13, 2011 at 12:23 pm (14 years ago)I must be the paranoid one of the group. I always clean a hotel bathroom room before I will even consider stepping one foot in the tub…lol And, I’ll admit this here but nowhere else, I even bring my own towels. I have my own idea of what ‘clean’ is and, even on a vacation (or a business trip), I can’t escape it. I know how much this makes me sound like a germ freak—but honest I’m not–all I need is just one second of thinking how many butts those towels have come in contact with, and I can’t stand it…lol

July 13, 2011 at 12:34 pm (14 years ago)This quote from Mark Twain is so true. I often thought the same kinds of things as I got older. It seems the older I get, the smarter my parents get. I had a (much younger) coworker ask me recently if there was anything I missed about my teenage years. I told him (and that my Dad could verify it) the one thing I missed was knowing everything and having an answer for everything. It seems the older I get, I realize there are days I don’t know jack.

July 25, 2011 at 4:19 am (14 years ago)OMG that was a fun post Kelly! The crime scene tape was hilarious! You’ll have to buy her several rolls of Scotch Tape for her stocking this year. Label them… Or make her a little scotch tape cozy 😉 But I have to agree with you… Wouldn’t a fly swatter or spray be easier!!?? Funny child 🙂

July 25, 2011 at 9:18 am (14 years ago)Funny post Kelly. Smart girl you have there – if line with the crime scene scenerio, she was using the “tape method” to preserve the evidence and also to warn the other mosquitos about what could happen to them.

July 28, 2011 at 12:55 am (14 years ago)Beautiful layout and happy for you that you could enjoy Ingvild’s layout class. Ingvild is such a nice lady. I was her helper today at our store but unfortunately I couldn’t take the class as I was working in the store today, but I did see the layout that the ladies created and she did give a little demonstration of all her awesome tools. I can’t wait to buy her craft knife and her 5 in 1 distressing tool when they are available for sale. Isn’t it great that we can all have this nice little community who share our passion? It’s always so nice to make new friends. Glad I met you 🙂

August 2, 2011 at 4:14 pm (13 years ago)Oh my goodness…I’m with Natasha! I don’t think I can handle the teenage years! Funny stuff!
Micupoftea~
August 2, 2011 at 4:25 pm (13 years ago)Ummm, on the one hand this is funny! On the other, he not only puts others at danger he puts himself in danger. In the last 4 years of driving my daughter to high school, I have been rear ended and sideswiped by TEEN drivers near the high school!!! Two different accidents I had to take my car in for repairs.grrr… I am so glad dd has graduated so I can stay away from the HS!!! LOL~ Some 16 yr olds are mature enough to drive, but most are not. Get out the hair color, it is going to be a bumpy ride! xo

August 3, 2011 at 12:40 pm (13 years ago)I have two that are now adults and married so I feel for you and know your pain. I still have an 11 year old at home. What was I thinking LOL. Just kidding! I love him dearly, but why can’t they just skip the teen years and go from 10 to 25 instantly? Chin up Kelly.
Ivana Camdzic
August 4, 2011 at 8:51 am (13 years ago)O boy! In a really that’s-just-how-it-goes kind of way, this is just hilarious! It was not that long ago that my lil brother was taking his driver’s test, and I had sworn that if he passed I would become a hermit – for fear of losing my life should I ever be in a 500 foot radius of his ill-operated car…Much to my surprise, when he failed the test TWICE, he somehow changed his outlook on what driving really means. Funny how things just have a way of working themselves out 🙂

August 4, 2011 at 12:16 pm (13 years ago)Kelly, you are a brave and patient Mom. My version of Mom’s driving school would have been shut down after the first or second incident. Please remember to give me a call when he is on the road so I can stay home (just kidding).

August 7, 2011 at 4:41 am (13 years ago)Guess what Kelly? My son is now one of those teenage boys out there driving! Yep, he hit the road 2 days after his birthday that was June 25th. I am so lucky, Draven is the total opposite of what teenagers are supposed to be. He is very responsible and drives better than me. I loved this post-so funny! So many of my friends are going through this so it is very relatable! I found a great hair color that lasts a lot longer than the others, if you would like the name of it-lol!!

August 7, 2011 at 10:22 am (13 years ago)OMG Kelly, I’m sitting here with my 12 year old DD and tears of laughter are rolling down my face. I am seriously dreading this too! I wish you the best of luck and new tires are expensive..just let the air out!

August 10, 2011 at 2:52 pm (13 years ago)You sure know how to bring the funny, Kelly. I wanted to laugh, but then, before I know it, my own son will be driving. Maybe I should just print this out and put it in his baby book now.
By the way, when I was a teen, I told my Dad that STOP stood for Squeal Tires On Pavement. He was not amused…

August 16, 2011 at 12:25 pm (13 years ago)What a fun post! Where did you go (between Kelowna and Vernon?) I only ask because my Dad lived in Oyama for a million years (but recently moved to Vernon). It is 20 minutes between Kelowna and Vernon but so small that no one ever knows where it is… Is that where you visited? I love it out there – Wade and I talk about relocating ALL the time. I am sure you had an amazing mini vacation. I love the wineries there – arent they beautiful?!

You have no idea how homesick these great travel pics are making this Okanagan raised girl right now! 🙂 Looks like you a stellar time there, that’s wonderful!
Thank you very much for your lovely comment on my scrapbook blog this morning about my anniversary card. Visiting the Okanagan, you were hanging out precisely where my parents still live 🙂

August 22, 2011 at 12:15 pm (13 years ago)Wow, Kelly! Your layout is gorgeous! Good for you finding a way to get out of fussy cutting that paper. 🙂 I think it’s quite a work of art, and your friend will love it.
P.S. I rather enjoy the teenage horror stories. They make me giggle…probably because I don’t have teenagers yet…(yet)

August 22, 2011 at 2:57 pm (13 years ago)Beautiful job of creating a gorgeous layout and then teaching us how to recreate one for ourselves. The bird and butterflies are the perfect additions to this nature-inspired page. The sheer ribbon really adds another dimension and is the perfect girly finish.

August 31, 2011 at 5:20 pm (13 years ago)Sweet and a lovely vintage feel. I especially like the hand stitching. The punching and doily add femininity and daintiness. WHat a treasure the photo is for your family heritage album! Your pages always have wonderful touches. Chicken ‘wire’ is perfect on this LO~
Cindy Gay
August 31, 2011 at 5:25 pm (13 years ago)Ok you party girl! This is a great layout starting with the priceless photo. Great shadow box style framing with the punchwork and chicken wire. The sign (title box) is very creative and the stitchery also very nice.

I mean I’m not even wanting to send him to kindergarten next year…not because I want him around 24/7 because I could use a break…but because time is flying by way too fast and although I know its supposed to happen, it still breaks my heart!

September 12, 2011 at 3:50 am (13 years ago)This is awesome! I don’t know if teens still say that….I think I may be aging myself. But awesome fits. The layout, the cover, your accomplishment. I love the page you created. Teen boy pages are especially hard to do and you rocked this. LOVE that pic of you holding the mag, lol. I am thrilled for you, Kelly.

September 13, 2011 at 4:41 pm (13 years ago)This is such a fun fall page. A delight! Your description of how this layout came about really made me smile. Indeed, the “fail” part of the title certainly and rightfully belongs to the teens! We moms have to stick together.
I think a fall pic of Kelly and hubby might be in order, esp now that BoyGenius is driving and BabyoftheFamily is fast becoming a teen and DramaQueen is surely going to resist a family photo shoot….
I love this Bella Blvd collection. You used the chipboard in such cute ways. I picked up a bit of this line the other day. Loved BB’s fall line last year too. Wonderful work, Kelly.

September 13, 2011 at 4:44 pm (13 years ago)I was looking through your blog tags and saw that “Justin Bieber” was a tag of yours. Curiosity got the best of me. Hee! Really cute story. Love the photoshopping!

September 13, 2011 at 5:38 pm (13 years ago)Funny funny! Love that the “Fail’ is all off kilter Kelly…it adds to the chaotic feeling of this LO. Great take on the sketchy challenge! and you’re right …sometimes it really is a relief to do a Lo that’s not all technique heavy. Great LO!!!
Sandra D
September 13, 2011 at 7:25 pm (13 years ago)Such a cute layout Kelly. It is ironic that the photos are the stars of a layout about the trials of getting a “good” photo. Love the papers (especially the wood grain) and the fun embellishments. What a good mom you are to include the hearts!
misty
September 13, 2011 at 9:43 pm (13 years ago)Great layout! I love your trees and the photo’s crack me up just thinking about the entire process! I can relate when trying to do photoshoots of my sisters kids…someones always mad and NO ONE ever pays attention to the photographer!!! Definitely the fault of the subjects not the photographers. 🙂

September 14, 2011 at 7:53 am (13 years ago)Wow Kelly, this page is stunning! You have the patience of a saint and nerves of steel because I would be a nervous ninny, (spelling???) cutting up that beautiful paper. But it came out GORGEOUS! I just adore the ribbon weaving around the photo! Thanks for sharing how you do what you do! It means a lot to this newbie!

September 14, 2011 at 7:59 am (13 years ago)Ooooh Kelly… my oldest Grandaughter is gonna graduate High School this year, I have been through this with my kids and now my Grandkids. September 14, 2011 at 8:19 am (13 years ago)What a beautiful tribute for a wonderful photo! I bet your Mom was so thrilled! My Mom just passed and I have found some amazing photos of her as a little girl, this is a wonderful idea for these treasured photos! I have been away from my home and supplies for months and months and I am having scrap anxiety… but I am storing up ideas, and this is at the top! Thanks for sharing the most inspiring and creative projects!

September 14, 2011 at 11:21 am (13 years ago)You captured the essence of that moment! I was not sure why giving up the keys was such a big deal for me too… but having to let go of the child is exactly what it is about. Of course R didn’t see it that way! And then there came the “first” accident… another story! Sharon

I wish she could realize that she will have so much more fun being original and creative than just another pretty face, but unfortunately the world seems to be making our little girls feel that way at a younger and younger age. Hope you guys have a hauntingly fun Halloween!

October 21, 2011 at 4:40 am (13 years ago)HA! Love it Kelly! I know my turn is coming, mine’s only 4, but time does fly… Everytime I think nothing can shock me these days, I see something like that tag on the shirt! What the ____?!! Anyway, as I read your through your post, my thought was that you really should try to publish your writing. ( You may be like DUH RENEEE, been there done that! ) But I think your writing would be so perfect @ places like Paper Crafting Magazine’s blog, or any of the other major blogs.. since you’re so good at papercrafting and writing.. match made in heaven!

October 21, 2011 at 7:46 am (13 years ago)Hi Kelly,
Love the post & the photos. It really sickens me to see the lengths the retailers will go for shock value. The values that seem normal today are outrageous! It is after seeing things like this that I am happy my dd does not love to shop. Your analogy about the cruise is so apt – we are sailing on chopping seas with a broken rudder! The really scary thought is I don’t know who is the captain most days.

October 21, 2011 at 8:17 am (13 years ago)baaahhhaaaa. I sooooooooooo feel your pain! and that comment about the undies?? Oh how true is that ! as Chelsea likes to say [ only half as a joke I think] “My Nana thinks I wear satan’s panties!”LOL and I thought I was a rebel in high school when I wore the first mini skirt out of all the girls! haha Why do retailers need to sexualize our little girls at an earlier and earlier age ? and I’m SHOCKED at that pill tshirt! Whoa…what the heck is that all about?

October 22, 2011 at 3:15 pm (13 years ago)You always give me a good laugh Kelly! Coming her is god for the soul….nice to know that I’m not the only one the breaks out in hives thinking about back to school shopping! Even more fun…try shopping with 2 girls who spend their whole time weighing out what is fair, who got more…oiy! You’re such a good writer…love reading your posts! xx

October 23, 2011 at 5:44 pm (13 years ago)HAHAHA!! You gave me a good chuckle! When I walk into Hollisters it takes a few minutes to get my hearing back after we leave! Luckily, my dd does not like shopping, and chooses clothing quickly! lol~ We end up going to better lit places like Forever 21 where at least we can read the tags! She prefers feminine and classy styles, not midriff baring, thank goodness. Love your sense of humor…THANKS for visiting my Haunted Halloween Tea!

This is beautiful, I love how you share the how to’s! I just got a BigKick and the brick embossing folder… I didn’t know you could put the ink right in it, I learned something new today! Thanks for sharing and keep up that great work… you are always an inspiration to me and I learned a lot from you today!

January 12, 2012 at 12:57 pm (13 years ago)Your blog post reminds me of the question I ask myself every winter: “Why do I live here when there are places that have decent weather all year round?” Love the photos from Mexico – they have a real happy feel. The layout is a great example of using colour and simple embellishments successfully.

January 12, 2012 at 7:08 pm (13 years ago)Beautiful colors in your layout and Mexico. I too like the pine trees in your back yard! Glad you had a great trip!

January 12, 2012 at 7:22 pm (13 years ago)I so enjoyed going through those pictures. About two years I was in Mexico myself with the hubby & this brought back memories. Our hotel wasn’t as colorful as yours though!! It was so bright! I’d need shades 24/7 there–but it was oh so pretty! Loved all your different takes and that pretty layout you wrapped your post up with. Glad to see you had a great vacation!

January 13, 2012 at 4:18 am (13 years ago)I wondered what the feathers were! She is gorgeous Kelly! You best get out yer rockin’ chair and shotgun as my father in law always says ROFL. I think he will set up a permanent station on our front porch when Emily turns 16 😉 Anyway, THANK u sooooooooo much for bringing a little piece of Heaven to me today – these pictures are so beautiful and summery.. reminds me also of the time I went to Mexico as a child, so much shopping!!!! If I went there today I would bankrupt myself lol! P.S. LO is gorgeous, love the dyno tapes and all the journaling words! And I was laughing at your “glamourous birch trees and WOW’s when describing your house (even though your house IS pretty, but yeah.. the humor cracked me up!) Hugs!

January 13, 2012 at 10:57 am (13 years ago)It looks like you had a wonderful, colorful trip, Kelly. Great pics. Which city did you visit? And I have to say: your backyard may not be colorful, but it is spectacular! What a view.
Great layout. I love the punches of color against the neutral background. BOF is lovely. They do grow up too fast. Sniff, indeed.

January 27, 2012 at 11:28 am (13 years ago)Hehehe I can totally relate. That is why a lot of my photos for scrapbooking are flowers, nature and landscapes because my two older kids are grown up and married and live 3 hours away and my son, that is still at home is 12 and gives me the hand. LOL. As long as it isn’t the finger I’m happy LOL.

January 27, 2012 at 1:28 pm (13 years ago)This is too funny only because it reminds me of my daughter! To get back at her, I scrap those photos, lol. Next time she will smile, lol. My daughter calls me often and says “MOM, why did you scrapbook that picture of me..I look horrible”… My rule is, when my camera is in hand and I’m pointing it your way, your going to end up on a layout!!!
Sandi Smith
January 27, 2012 at 5:47 pm (13 years ago)Loved your post Kelly…too funny. I go through this with my son…Claudine has not quite reached this phase yet. I think you should definintely do that album!

January 27, 2012 at 5:49 pm (13 years ago)Oh my gawd! You crack me up Kelly! I do love the pic of her with the camera up to her face…its really cool. Thankls for the giggles sweetie! Hugs

January 27, 2012 at 7:08 pm (13 years ago)Oh that’s funny. And she’s so pretty, she should let you take her picture! At least it wasn’t the obscene gesture! You could scrap the one of her with the camera though. . . something to work with there!

January 27, 2012 at 9:57 pm (13 years ago)HILARIOUS, Kelly!!!! I feel your pain, my friend! I, too, have gotten “the hand” many times and have to make an appointment for a photo shoot! LOVE this post (I know…..there’s not a post on your blog that I don’t love). It MADE MY DAY!

January 27, 2012 at 11:12 pm (13 years ago)Too funny, Kelly! I have one of each – my son either runs at the site of the camera or makes a goofy face and my daughter jumps into EVERY photo with a big cheesy grin… It’s embarassing when a photographer doesn’t have any good photos of their own children! LOL!
scrapbookertink
January 28, 2012 at 5:17 am (13 years ago)LOL, I can relate to that, do some layouts with the hand, she won’t like it and you might then get some pics next time for layouts, take care, Doreen x

January 28, 2012 at 6:04 am (13 years ago)Absolutely histerical, Kelly!!!!! I am still laughing!!!! I know exactly what you are dealing with – I have a 17 year old! We are getting ready to go to Disney World in April – I bet I get a lot of the same shots and will need the same “medicine” that you used on vacation!!!!!!!! Thank you SO MUCH for these giggles!
Renee
January 28, 2012 at 7:23 am (13 years ago)ROFL!!!! This is so funny Kelly! I remember doing ‘the hand’ so much at that age! And we didn’t even HAVE digital cameras so you can imagine how pissed my mom was using up so much costly film! By the way missy – got my prize package – thank you so much! And I really loved that handmade card, what a gorgeous envelope and design!

January 28, 2012 at 8:07 am (13 years ago)I just love your sense of humour, Kelly! My DD loves the camera, but then hates 99% of the pics after…my DS groans whenever I haul out the camera, but the only one in the family who does the hand thing is hubby! I think you SHOULD scrap her hand album; might make her think twice next time(and I love the shot of her with the camera)
Connie Nichol
January 28, 2012 at 8:25 am (13 years ago)I think the mini album is a great idea! Hopefully your DD will pass out of this phase soon. Have you tried bribery???? It often works with younger kids if you pay for pictures. LOL

January 28, 2012 at 9:33 am (13 years ago)Kelly, I laughed out loud about being lucky to get three fingers instead of just one. These pictures cracked me UP! I’m considering myself lucky that my girls are just 9 and 6 yet. Hopefully I have a good long time before they start giving me _the hand_.
Thanks for the smiles! 🙂

January 29, 2012 at 7:41 am (13 years ago)Yes this calls for a bit of scrappers revenge- a mini book sounds perfect. She really is quite beautiful- perhaps you can try to shoot on a timer so she doesn’t know it’s coming? Lola is only 2 and a half but she’s been running away from photos or giving me “the forehead” for about a year now. I usually need a Margarita to get over it too- especially after a big “family” photo where everyone is complaining about the actual photo but then gets angry when I don’t send them a copy. Hugs from one shutterbug momma to another!
