There are soooo many different brush pens out there, and I feel compelled to try each and every one of them.  The problem is… too many pens, too little time.

A few months ago, I happened to come across a set of Brush Sharpies in a big box craft store.  I was shocked and had no idea Sharpie had brush pens! Of course I had to buy them and try them out.

@kellycreates #sharpie #brush #lettering #handlettering #learn #practice #brushlettering #reviewThere are different sets of Sharpies with different colours in the sets. I recently bought a second set with more primary colours.  The affiliate link to purchase the sharpies is below.

My Instagram lettering videos have been really popular, especially the Sharpie Brush videos. I think it’s because you can get really thick downstrokes and the vibrant colour is really eye catching.

But there are some drawbacks to.  First, the Sharpies (like all Sharpies) bleed through most paper unless it’s specialty. I might use them for special signage or quotes, but I don’t practice with them, also because they have a strong odor and they seem to dry out quickly.

If you would like to use my practice worksheets, click HERE and check them out…they work well with the Sharpie Brush pens too.

You can purchase specialty paper from art stores that is ‘bleed proof’ for alcohol markers, which I have done as well. But usually I just use my HP Premium Laserjet 32lbs.

For your shopping convenience, here are the affiliate links for the Sharpie Brush pens and HP paper.  Click on the images to shop. I have this package of HP paper, which is 500 sheets, and it lasts FOREVER.

Because I get sooo many questions about using Sharpie Brush pens, I decided to make a YouTube video to explain the pros and cons of using them.  Here is the video. You can also click HERE to visit my YouTube channel and subscribe so you don’t miss future tips and tutorials.

I love sharing my ideas for art, crafts, and hand lettering! Keep up to date by subscribing to my blog in the right sidebar …. AND now I have a NEW monthly email newsletter that will have exclusive tips, offers, coupons to my shop, and even some really cute pictures of my doggie Finn. That is over there to the right sidebar too >>>>>>

Happy Crafting!

Karleigh here! Thank you so much for answering our queries! Too bad they bleed out fast. They would’ve been so perfect otherwise. Thing is,I wouldn’t mind Tombows too but I HATE the colour combination that come in pack. I would love to be able to pick the colours I like instead of having to chose a pack with fixed range of colours, especially because whatever pack I DON’T end up liking is almost always out of stock. Since I order from Amazon I don’t even have the luxury of choosing individual pens.

Oh I meant that that whatever pack I end up liking is always out of stock. Had a typo in the comment up there 🙂

Loved your scope over the weekend on connecting letters! So nicely broken down, as is the “Kelly way”. Wish it was on either You Tube or IG. I have an online friend that I share lettering resources with. Wish I could direct her to that great video. Thank you for great lettering to watch and great learning opportunities:)

Sue Anna, lefties can use any kind of brush pen and do beautiful lettering. I know many talented lettering artists who are left handed. Just practice and you will learn how!
