I have always been an avid reader. I learned to read when I was 4 years old when my brother was in Grade 1. I would take his readers he brought home from school, and my mom would help me. When I started school a couple years later, I could read so well, that I was placed in the Grade 3 class during reading time.
Our local library was a very small branch, and I devoured all it had to offer. At that time, years ago, there was a weekly limit of 14 books. My poor mother made so many trips to the library, but she never complained.
I remember getting lost for hours in books, and my imagination brought to life everything inside those covers. This led to my love of writing stories. My brother and I both would fill page after page with our fictional adventures. On family road trips, all we needed were pens and paper.
You know how kids play make believe school? Well, I played “library” and pretended I was a librarian. I collected all the books we owned and carried them into the basement. Then I spent days making pockets and due date cards to stick in the inside back covers (yes that is in the ‘olden days’ before bar codes!). My dad ran his own business and had a home office in the basement. I would use his date stamp and stamp out the cards and lend out books to friends or even stuffed animal toys.
I guess you can see where this is headed. My dream come true has happened. I wrote an instructional book to teach you brush lettering, and it will be published in December 2017. I always thought I would write a novel (and still have lots in the works) but by the end of this year, I will be holding my very own book in my hands.
And to see my calligraphy on the cover. EEEEK! I am beyond words (almost!)
After teaching countless workshops over the past couple of years, I have poured all my knowledge of brush pens and calligraphy into these pages. It has everything you will need to get started or improve your skills, no matter what level. There are even tracing guides included for large and small brush pens to begin practicing. My digital download worksheets will still be available in my shop. They are more in depth with more repetition of letters than the guides in the book, and they complement each other well. Even if you already are practicing with my worksheets, the book will be a wonderful resource for you. And if you buy the book first, then you will enjoy continuing your practice with my printable worksheets here in my Shop.
I am a teacher. And I am a writer. This is my lifelong dream, and I can’t wait to share it with the world!
The Art of Brush Lettering is now available for pre-order online (Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Chapters Indigo, Barnes & Noble and more). If you would like to pre-order from Amazon, click HERE. You will see it in bookstores in December 2017!
