Sharing our art work and crafts online can be a scary proposition. When we post a project and watch the number of Likes come in, we might feel validated, rewarded, judged or discouraged…or all of these!

Even at this point of my creative journey, I am prone to an emotional response to what I share and how it is received by my followers. This can lead to being overwhelmed by some unhealthy and stressful feelings, which I have learned to overcome and manage to a great extent.

This month I am the Featured Artist at Pentalic, a manufacturer of art supplies. You probably have seen my Pentalic Aqua Journal which always travels with me, which I use to sketch and watercolour my surroundings. This art form is commonly known as “urban sketching”. I also sketch with my Kelly Create Black Fineliners and Sakura Koi 24 Field Sketch Box.

Since my Instagram following is based on my calligraphy and hand lettering videos, I felt reluctant to share my Aqua Journal sketches there. But I took a chance and did share and have received wonderful and encouraging comments online. This week I wrote a blog post for Pentalic about sharing art on social media with 10 Top Tips on how to manage those sometimes scary and frustrating feelings that rise up when we put ourselves and our art ‘out there.’ Click HERE to read more on the Pentalic.com blog.

I am tempted to try this type of art Kelly! It would be way outside my comfort zone but at the same time I feel this exhilarating feeling to do it.

Connie…. I hope you try it. Honestly, it is out of my comfort zone too. I have no previous sketching OR watercolour experience!
