Stephanie (@simplystephlettering) is here to show you how easy it is to make table place cards for a wedding or other special event.

Wedding season is upon us! There is nothing like a spring wedding when the weather warms and flowers are blooming. Making escort and place cards is one of my favorite things to do as a wedding calligrapher. Although it is quite simple to make a traditional tented place card, I am going to show you a few different ways to embellish them to create attractive, unique place cards using some of my favorite Kelly Creates products!

Kelly Creates Supplies:

Other supplies: paint brush, water, trimmer, scissors

First, cut a 3.5 in x 5in piece of white paper from the Kelly Creates Project Pad and fold down the middle widthwise, making your writing surface 3.5 in x 2.5in. Feel free to change the size of the cards to suit your needs.

Next, using your ruler and pencil from the Deluxe Lettering Kit, draw a light, straight line across the middle of the card. Letter the name of the guest on your pencil line using your fine tip Black Brush Pen from the Deluxe Lettering Kit.

Make sure to erase all pencil lines after you have finished lettering the guest’s name! TIP: Practice the guests’ names first on your Kelly Creates Practice Pad.

If you prefer, you can stamp the names with Kelly Creates Alphabet stamp sets and Ink Pads Stamp Block Set. (Click on these images to shop for supplies).

One way to do this is to use some of the gold stickers from the new Kelly Creates Sticker Book. I Love this black and gold color scheme! Easy DIY table placecards for special events, dinners, weddings and more www.kellycreates.ca

You can use some of the Rub-Ons as well. To use the Rub-Ons, cut out the design you want, peel off the protective backing, place the image where you would like it to be on the place card, then rub the image to transfer it onto the paper using the wood stick provided. Easy DIY table placecards for special events, dinners, weddings and more www.kellycreates.ca

Another way to embellish the card is with watercolor using the Aqua Brushes. Using a piece of Kelly Creates Galaxy Washi Tape, section off a corner of the card. Next, with your Aqua Brush, color the bottom edges of the paper. Easy DIY table placecards for special events, dinners, weddings and more www.kellycreates.ca

Using a paintbrush dipped in water, blend the colors in your sectioned off area. Once it dries, peel off your Washi Tape. The tape acts as a boundary for the watercolor, so you will have a nice clean line separating the color from the rest of the card. Feel free to play around with blending colors and placement of the watercolor. You can also do the watercolor before writing the guest’s name. TIP: Use watercolor paper instead of card stock if more blending or water is required.

There are so many ways to be creative with place cards and any special event you are planning! Take note and  appreciate the place cards at the next event you attend because someone worked hard to design them.
