UPDATE WINNER:  Congrats to Lena Oswald!!

Happy New Year and welcome to my blog! This is where I share my crafty ideas, art adventures, plus lots of calligraphy and hand lettering. A big shout out and thank you to Latisha Yoast for organizing this event for the past 8 years!!

The past decade has taken me places I never thought I would ever be! I picked up a brush pen 4 and half years ago, and here I am with my own product line with American Craftstraveling the world teaching calligraphy workshops.

The art of watercolor lettering book by Kelly Klapstein www.kellycreates.ca

I also wrote 2 books in the past 4 years, something I never would have imagined but always dreamed of doing. If you pursue your dreams fearlessly, wonderful things happen! I encourage you all to try something new in 2020, use the supplies that sit untouched in your  drawers or cupboards, and take risks with your creativity.

I am excited for the next decade and will be exploring some new creative adventures. I hope you subscribe to my blog, my newsletter, and my YouTube channel so you can join me on my artful journey. You can also follow my Facebook Page “Kelly Creates Studio” and join my Facebook group “Kelly Creates Art & Calligraphy,” where I share lots of lettering videos, techniques, and inspiration.

I thank God for this newfound hobby. It’s started with Kellycreates bootcamp in late 2017. I bought kellycreates art brush lettering book, dream brush pens, deluxe lettering kit and practice pad – My calligraphy journey sets off.

Being reminded by Kelly lesson – needs to keep on practising – to develop the muscle memory.

Also was reminded of this phrase – Every Master was once a beginner”. Keep practising.

Friends encouraged me by giving me mini project… And lots later, they encouraged me to start mini commissioned projects.

Late this year, I started to receive commissioned job. 🙂

In 2020, I hope to pick up new calligraphy skills such as water colour calligraphy.

I pray the new Year will bring me to new
      and exciting calligraphy adventure! 🙂

Kelly your hand lettering is amazing, I am not surprised you are travelling the world to teach it.
I have 3 calligraphy pens I bought from Creative Memories yrs ago and am still using them trying to learn the art of hand lettering. Last year I addressed all of my envelopes using those pens and got a call from my aunt who was very impressed, (even though I am still not great at it). She said she couldn’t imagine who would be sending her such a beautiful card/envelope. ? I guess I am making SOME progress with it.

And I always go back to my calligraphy. It calms me and motivates me to think of it bigger then just a hobby. My goal this year is to put together some calligraphy pieces and try to sell them to make some money for my family and myself. Hopefully it will all work out!!

My creative goal for 2020 is to get back into calligraphy & start practicing hand lettering. When I was a teenager, I had bought a calligraphy set & loved it but then “life” happened. Having 3 boys, with one being autistic & one having some mild learning disabilities plus working full time made it hard to have “me” time. So now, my boys are all in their twenties & working. I am finally able to have “me” time!!

During the year 2020 I have decided that all my crafting “STUFF” needs to be in one place! When we moved 5 years ago it ended up where there was room! No more! Knowing you have something and knowing where is are two very remote notions! So this is the year! I managed to pick up your Learn Brush Lettering book from Walmart – yeah me – and that is my biggest project this year! Without a doubt I plan to make this happen! Happy New Year!

Hi, Kelly! I do calligraphy with other types of pens and have for years. Recently started following you and have enjoyed the experience! I love the way you engage your audience with tutorials and mini projects. I hope to purchase some of your pens to give brush lettering a try. The only brush pens I have are from the Dollar Tree and are not a good quality product. So I look forward to trying my hand at something new!

My number one crafty goal for year 2020 is pursue coloring. I took the 30 day coloring Challenge of Kathy Racoosin and i love it so much. Earlier i cudnt color for toffee. I want to learn it continuously as coloring adds the bling to the hand made card. All the amazing crafters have taught me so much and helped me to keep my head above without falling sick.
The next goal is arranging my crafty space as my daughter will give a separate space as i join her this year. I want to plan and design a simple but organised space with minimum spending.

I have admired hand lettering since I was a little girl when I got my first Crayloa Marker Calligraphy set for Christmas in 1988. I never could get the hang of how to hold the divided markers that would draw two or three lines at a time and gave up. I’ve finally found that spark again and would love to learn the art of brush lettering in 2020.

I hope to continue making birthday cards for each member of my church and also to send out cards to my pen pals who have been incarcerated and wish to brighten their day by sending encouraging notes throughout the year! Just one handmade note or card can lift the spirit of a person who may feel like life is without hope. I truly wish to make a small difference in their life just as much as mine:-))

    Hi Kelly,

I just watched one of your vids on Facebook and it got me inspired to try to start again doing calligraphy. It’s one of my frustrations, and I was supposed to start doing it 2 years ago, but I got pregnant and it got me a whole different kind of busy. So if I win this, I would love to start practicing again, and hopefully create my own style. Thank you for sharing your passion!

I think I’m going to do a get crafty video too that talks about having fun with your kids, since I am The Busy Mami I like to show that there are lots of ways to get your kids involved.

What I really want to do this year is DO the things I watch be done. I want to fearlessly dive into the projects I spend so much time looking at and learning how to do, but not really doing much of them. I want to get more into making tumblers, digitizing my own writing/lettering for vinyl projects, and I want to get my own art work and personalized photos up on the walls of the apartment that I’ve had for two years and left empty!

Hi Kelly, I have chronic illnesses, 2 young children and my husband works away so my new year’s resolution has been to pull right back and do the minimum to try to get better. Part of that is ensuring I am creative – I’ve been practising lettering here and there last year but now want to incorporate it into every week to get better but most importantly to have a creative outlet! Inspired by your work and what a prize to enter! Thanks and Happy New Year. X

I have 3 children and spent the last 10 years of my life to care for them and now they are all in school, it’s time for me to find something that makes me as happy as their little smiles that I miss dearly!! I have ordered your brush pens and waiting for them to arrive to get started on my journey! It is a beautiful language in its own way and it speaks to my soul in a way that only crafty things can. I am a very private person. It is not easy for me to come out of my shell. Late in August 2018, I discovered lettering, through the social media materials that you continuously present. Working on the strokes soothes me. Puts me in a flow, where i forget time. But most of all, lettering allows me a new way of expressing myself that does not require a great big show. My challenge for 2020 is to really learn lettering and to become a new voice for myself and others who for any reason are hindered to do the same! My best wishes for the year to come!

I want to improve my handwriting, especially on posters or cards. Your lettering is absolutely beautiful! I would also like to be able to do this, but I am a newcomer. I will change it in 2020 🙂

My goal is to try to improve my lettering and handwriting for my cards. I’ve been fighting with my handwriting ever since my accident and I’d like to improve it.
