Think Positive with Hand Lettering

Bonnie (@diamondandwillow) has the most wonderful tutorial about creating hand lettered affirmations as a kind reminder to love yourself.

Sometimes it may be nice to have a little visual reminder of some positive qualities we possess, or we may want to show someone else how we notice their goodness and appreciate them. You could use this hand lettered piece framed in your home, on your desk, or as a card to accompany a gift for someone.

Kelly Creates Supplies: Deluxe Lettering Kit, Specialty Paper Pad, Black Fineliner, Metallic Jewel Small Brush Pens, Metallic Jewel Bullet Tip Pens, Metallic Jewel Large Brush Pens, Gold Washi Tape

I chose two different pages from the Kelly Creates Specialty Paper Pad. With the Drawing Pencil from the Kelly Creates Deluxe Lettering Kit , I printed the words “I am…” and “You are…” in the center of the paper.

From a list of positive trait words (with the help of Google search), I began adding words of importance around the centre words. I used a pencil first to see what words might fill in the spaces best. I also mixed script and printed words for variety and interest. This brings focus to significant words that are of greater importance to you or for the recipient.

Since I chose two pieces of paper with gold foil borders from the Specialty Paper pad, I decided to use the Kelly Creates Metallic Jewel Pens for some extra sparkle. For the “I am” piece, I used both the large and small Jewel Brush pens, plus the Jewel Bullet Tip pens in Bronze. I then wrote over top of the words that were written in pencil.

For the ‘ You are’ piece, I used the Kelly Creates Metallic Jewel Ruby and Amethyst pens to match the paper background. Once again I traced over the pencilled words, varying the colours and style.

Next, using the eraser from the Kelly Creates Deluxe Lettering Kit, I cleaned up the pencil lines.

Lastly, I wanted to create just a little emphasis on the centre words, so I used the Kelly Creates 01 Black Fineliner to add a shadow line to the right side, which made them stand out just a little more than the rest of the words.

And your affirmation pieces are finished! You could simply mount these anywhere by using some gold washi tape from the Kelly Creates Galaxy Washi tape pack. Washi tape is removable and re-positionable, so it won’t damage surfaces like painted walls. Now you have a daily reminder that you are a gift to the world.

I think this would also make a wonderful page in my journal, planner, or even as a background for a scrapbook layout. Thank you, Bonnie, for reminding us to be kind to ourselves and uplift others with positive affirmations.
