Happy Fall Friends! October is upon us, the air is crisp, and it’s the month of all things spooky! Today I am bringing you a fun tutorial on how to make some spooky cute ghosties for your Halloween projects! Kelly’s amazing line up of products are great for so much more than lettering!

You can use these ghosties for cards, décor or if you participate in “BOO’ing” your neighbors; these are perfect for the “you’ve been BOO’d” signs! Kelly’s Moonlight markers and white watercolor ink are perfect for making ghosts! I tried a bunch of different kinds of papers and Ghostie shapes and had so much fun just creating. Grab your supplies and come play!

I tried this technique on kraft colored cardstock, black cardstock, vellum and acetate. The Moonlight Markers and Watercolor Ink look different on all these different papers, so be sure to play and see what you like the best!

On Kraft paper I drew the ghost shape with the Moonlight Marker. You can start with pencil first if you’re not sure of the shape you want. Remember to start light – you can add another layer of the Moonlight marker if you want to make it more opaque. When I was happy with the body shape, I added some arms! I then used the small brush black marker to make a speech bubble above the ghost.

Then I drew black eyes and mouth with the Kelly Creates Black Fineliner 10 once the Moonlight Marker was dry. The Moonlight markers are great as a base for layering other colors on top. Remember that Ghosts come in many shapes and sizes, so have fun and just explore different sizes and shapes.

Another fun addition is to add a shadow underneath the ghost. This gives the appearance that they are floating while giving the piece a “ground”.  I added the shadow with the Stone Dream Pen. It’s just a simple squished circle!

Using the versatile Moonlight Markers, I wrote “BOO” in the word bubble. I also used the 05 Fineliner Pen to draw a few bats around the ghost. I was happy with this, so I moved on the more ghosties.

Next, I wanted to try the same technique on vellum. I followed the same steps, but changed up the shape of my ghost. I really like the way the white pops on the vellum paper.

I added arms again, but this time drew them thin.  All of the ghosts are different.

I wanted the ghost to hold a banner. Using the 1.0 black Fineliner, I drew a banner between the arms. I also added a cute face with the Fineliner and added a dot of white inside the eye for a little light. I added a little color to the cheeks with the Dream Pen, Petal.

Next, I added the final touches. With the Silver Jewel Brush pen, I wrote BOO on the banner, and added a witch’s hat sticker. Use items in your stash to embellish the ghosts and give them a dimensional appearance!

Because I was having so much fun with these Ghosties, I tried the kraft paper with Moonlight Markers, and a new Ghostie Shape!

I added a face, the same as before and arms to the ghost. It’s easy to add layers to the ghost with Moonlight Markers. I want them to carry a pumpkin that I will add in a minute, that is why the arm is not connected to the body.

I want to look like the Ghostie is holding the pumpkin, so I used an Exacto knife and cutting mat, and cut around the arm so I could tuck the pumpkin behind the arm.

Look how cute the puffy sticker pumpkin is with the Ghostie! If you don’t have these hat and pumpkin stickers, then just draw them with Kelly’s pens!

OK, now I am trying the same technique on black cardstock. I am going to apologize now, because I couldn’t stop making cute Ghosties! I added the shadow and the face with the Stone Dream pen.

Let’s switch over to the white watercolor ink and the black paper. Using the #4 Kelly Creates watercolor lettering brush, water and the white watercolor ink, I tried a few different shapes and size ghosts. I love that if you add more water to the white, you get a more transparent ghost, and if you add more layers, they are more opaque. NOTE: The White Watercolor Ink is a thick gouache formula, unlike the other inks, so diluting with water works well.

Next I added the faces to these watercolor ghosts. I also added a dab of white to the eyes. On some of the ghosts I added the pink to the cheeks.

OK, the last paper option is acetate! Using the watercolor, I painted a ghost on the acetate card. The thickness of the white watercolor ink is perfect for the acetate. I let it dry and added a second coat where needed.

Now that I have all of these fun ghosties on different type of papers, it was time to make them into cards and such. I added sentiments to them and some fun Halloween puns!

Or just add some fun stickers and bows!  Now it’s time to make some cards and tags!
