I don’t know about you, but I give many gift cards this time of year! I love the simplicity of buying them. I love that you can find any gift card, to any place and any increment you like! What I don’t love is sometimes they feel a little impersonal.

This is when I head for my craft supplies and Kelly Creates pens to create some special packaging to make them a little bit more “giftable” because the recipient has something to open. Using your lettering skills adds that personal touch.

Today I would like to share 3 easy projects that give those gift cards some personal touches. In this tutorial, I use a few We R Memory Keepers Punchboards to save time. The instruction booklets included with the tools have detailed step-by-step instructions on how to use them.

Kelly Creates SUPPLIES: Multicolor Fineliners, Moonlight Markers, Multicolor Small Brush pens.

OTHER SUPPLIES (shopping links at the end of this post): Scrapbooking Paper (Crate Paper’s Merry Days), Adhesive (American Crafts tape runner), Baker’s Twine (American Crafts), Crinkle paper or tissue, WRMK ToolsTrim and Score Board 1-2-3 Punchboard , DIY Party Punchboard , Pocket Punchboard , Glue Gun

Project 1: Pocket Greeting Card

First, choose the patterned paper and card stock you want to use and then cut them to the card size with your paper trimmer.

Next use the We R Memory Keepers Pocket Punchboard to create a pocket to hold the gift card. Punch out of pattern paper and fold. Assemble the card, and place the pocket on either the cover or inside. The recipient will be delighted with the interactive handmade card. Use your Kelly Creates Small tip Brush Pens to add a tag that says, “no peeking” or any sentiment you choose.

You can also use the We R Memory Keepers 1-2-3 Punchboard to create a matching envelope on which you will hand letter the recipient’s name. I also added an envelope ‘belly band’ made from cardstock, along with some Baker’s Twine. These extra touches really make the gift card special.

 Project #2: Gift Card Pouch

For this gift card holder, you will need a 12×12″ piece of patterned paper and a couple of scraps of coordinating paper. Use the WRMK DIY Party Punchboard to create the pouch.    Really CUTE diy gift card holders to make for any time of year www.kellycreates.ca

Add some crinkle paper or tissue and place the gift card inside the pouch.

Seal the pouch with adhesive so it stays closed (I used my hot glue gun). Create a pinwheel with coordinating patter paper and the WRMK Trim and Score Board. I used a 12” strip that was 1½” wide and scored my pinwheel in ½” increments.

Create a hand lettered tag and tie on the pouch with Baker’s Twine. I used my Kelly Creates Multicolor Fineliners to draw the wintry sprig and the Kelly Creates “Emerald” Multicolor Small Brush pen to write “happy holidays.” You could even pop a few Christmas candies inside the pouch too!

Project #3: Gift Box

This project is really simple, but provides a big WOW factor. First, use a 12×12 piece of cardstock and the WRMK 1-2-3 Punchboard to create the box. I used a dark forest green paper for the box so I could letter on it with the white Moonlight Marker and it would pop.

Using the Kelly Creates Moonlight Markers, letter a word, or sentiment on the side of the box. It’s a good idea to do the lettering BEFORE you fold and assemble the box. Glue the box together. Add some tissue or crinkle paper and pop in the gift card!

You can even add some Christmas die cuts, stickers and small wrapped candy to the box. Create tags from patterned paper and letter on the tags to personalize them.

Ok. So now I need to go out and get some WRMK Punch Boards. Must be after Christmas since I can’t swing the money right now. Love all these ideas and how everything is personalized. Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing it.
