Metallic Jewel Brush Pen Lettering On a Card

Chasity (@chiciscre8tive) has created some really cool lettering and cute cards using the new Kelly Creates Metallic Jewel Small Brush pens!

I am holding on to summer as long as I can! I know everyone is getting excited for Fall with all the décor showing up in stores. School shopping has commenced… But it is still 100 degrees here in Utah, and I am embracing summer just a bit longer. As an avid card maker, I wanted a summery lettering style for this card. What says summer more than watermelon!?!

I am swooning over Kelly’s new Small Brush Tip Jewel Metallic Markers! They are so juicy that they remind me of watermelon! Today I want to share with you a quick, easy way to create watermelon letters for cards or home décor!

The first step is to write the word “Melon”,or any word of your choice, on the black cardstock from Kelly’s Project Paper Pack, with the Moonlight Marker. This will be the BASE of the letters. This would look great with a serif style as well!

Next, use the “Ruby” Jewel Metallic Small Brush pen to trace over the white, but only trace the top third of each letter. Be sure to cover all of the white on your base letters.

Leave the edges a little uneven at the bottom

Use the Silver Metallic Jewel Small Brush pen and trace over the center of all the letters. Be sure to keep this random and not so straight across. You can always go back with the Ruby if needed once the silver is dry. This only takes a couple of seconds.

Now, finish off the letters with the Jade Metallic Jewel Small Brush Pen and continue to cover the bottom third of the letter that is still white. 

The Jade and Silver blend so nicely! Once that is dry, (again, only takes a second), use the Black Fineliner 05 to add the dots or “seeds” in the Ruby ‘red’ portion of the letters. 

Next, add the rest of the sentiment with the Kelly Creates Silver Metallic Jewel Small Brush pen. You could also use the Kelly Creates Metallic Bullet tip pens for this part. I wrote this in pencil first to make sure that my spacing was where I wanted it. The metallic ink covers pencil lines perfectly! Erase any pencil if needed.

 Trim down the black card stock around the sentiment using a paper trimmer. Then select a patterned paper as your card base, and trim to fit the sentiment.

I added a watermelon slice ephemera and some baker’s twine to my card. I also cut out a “bite” from the black paper... I think I just wanted to eat some watermelon! 

You can use this technique with any sentiment; it doesn’t have to be the word “Melon”. Here I used the same lettering for this “Thank You” card as well.

Using the Kelly Creates Moonlight Marker, I added highlights to each letter for a different effect. Play around and see what you like.
