I am loving the sunny, warm weather we are having and decided to celebrate with a bright yellow ‘Here Comes the Sun’ free printable worksheet.

This week we are going to learn about adding shadows with pens to watercolour lettering. I find that shadows really help create dimension, especially with lighter tones of inks.

In this sample, I used the Kelly Creates Deep Yellow Watercolor Ink with my Round 2 Lettering Brush. Even when I dilute this Yellow ink with water in the palette, it is a vibrant colour with rich pigment.

I drew the black shadow line with a Fine Point Sharpie. Adding a black shadow line really makes the letters pop!

This marker creates dark black lines that contrast nicely against the yellow, and it draws smoothly on the watercolour paper. Although it is labelled as a ‘fine’ tip, I think it is more like a medium or large nib. Click HERE or click the image below to shop this Sharpie pen with an affiliate link.

Remember that you can print this worksheet on regular copy paper and paint right on it to practice. To really improve your watercolour lettering, I recommend my Kelly Creates watercolor lettering workbooks, inks, brushes and palette. And you can also practice on my special heavyweight Kelly Creates Grid paper. Click HERE to shop my watercolour lettering supplies in my online store.

No new colours planned yet. But you can mix these inks together to create new custom colours. I do this all the time.
