Meet Kymona Tracey of “Kreative Kymona.”

Hello, I’m Kymona Tracey. Who am I, you ask? I am a woman who never slows down and loves it. Yes… I am the energizer bunny’s sister! I keep going and going. I am a single mother of two beautiful children who are eight years apart. My 22-year-old son is off at college, learning how to be independent. My 13-year-old daughter is a real-life princess who loves anything crafty and girly. Talk about yin and yang! …but I love it!!

Besides running from one activity to another with them, I work full time at a hospital (public health background), teach high school students on the weekends, love traveling, and have an immense love of learning new things. I’ve taken classes in photography, web design, knitting, scrapbooking, card-making, and a host of workshops.

In 2017, things changed for me. My daughter taught me how to sew. I instantly fell in love with fabric, thread, and the sewing machine. I love the feeling of creating projects that someone will call their own, so I opened my online store, Kreative Kymona, in 2019. You can find all of my handmade items there.

You can find Kymona online here: Blog, Shop, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter.

Meet Jeannine Hurlic of Armo Love Crafts.

Hi There!  My name is Jeannine Hurlic and I’m the maker of Armo Love Crafts.  I am a passionate crafter that puts my heart into everything that I make.  I love candle making, sewing and all fiber arts!  I developed a passion for crafting when I was 10 years old when my Mom bought me my first sewing machine and have been hooked ever since!  I love to constantly learn so I always try to learn a new craft every year.
By day, I am a full time Quality Manager for a manufacturing company and by night, I enjoy making candles and sewing.  I’m also a wife and Mommy to an 11 month old beautiful little girl and an amazing 5 year old son!  My little family is wonderfully supportive in my crafting and totes of supplies for crafting! Ha!  I have to admit… it’s really difficult to juggle work, family life and crafting.  But it’s what I love to do so I find the drive to get it all done!

A little background on the name of my company… I’m half Armenian and that is where Armo comes from.  And I make everything with a lot of LOVE!
My favorite craft is candle making.  I find it so therapeutic and relaxing.  I put a lot of thought and love into every candle that I make.  All my candles are made in small 1 pound batches to ensure the highest quality.  I use natural 100% soy wax with premium fragrance oils, a lead and zinc free cotton wick and non-toxic dyes.  All hand poured in my studio (the kitchen lol)  located in Long Beach California.  Available in mason jars, travel tins, and mugs!

One of things that I miss the most since the pandemic started is being able to both attend and be a seller at craft shows.  I miss connecting with both makers and shoppers face to face.  Like others, I have had to find different ways to connect with my crafting community and social media is my go to!  I’m looking forward to finding a new normal after the pandemic and being able to be part of craft shows again!  But until then, we can connect online!
You will find Jeannine on Etsy by clicking HERE and on Instagram: @armolovecrafts

Meet Carter Tisdale of Carter Tisdale Designs!

This young 13-year-old entrepreneur has kept busy during COVID turning his life-long love for woodworking into a small business.
Carter Tisdale was only 7 years old when he started making tables at the family cabin to sell to their surrounding neighbours. His Dad taught him how to read a measuring tape, use a drill and even a handsaw to cut the free scrap wood Carter would gather from the neighbours. Carter spent many weekends building tables, each one nicer than the last.
When the COVID pandemic hit, recreation centres and school gyms closed and extracurricular sports were suspended. Carter, an avid basketball player, needed a new hobby to occupy his free time and was drawn to his Dad’s woodworking garage. A night owl, he often works late into the night measuring, cutting, gluing, planing, routering, sanding, branding, oiling and finally tie wrapping the finished pieces.
While he and his dad pondered what to make, Carter mentioned he had seen ideas for cutting boards online. His Dad shared he had had a similar idea. They worked together and made their first prototype and Carter took over from there. Throughout Covid, Carter has honed his skills at the table saw, miter saw, router and planer tools to create these custom pieces. He is also a big fan of Ryobi power tools.
These beautiful boards are made out of a variety of hardwoods including ash, cherry, walnut, maple and African red Padauk. This has become a real family affair, with Carter hiring his two older brothers to help him fulfill orders.

Carter has already made over 150 items… from cutting boards to serving trays to trivets. His charcuterie boards , also known as ‘grazing boards,’ have been been hugely popular since we are all creating comfort & coziness while ‘staying at home’ during this crazy Covid time.
I can vouch for the beauty and durability of these boards, and we spent the summer getting creative with our grazing board while sitting around our fire pit visiting with friends. My dog Finn especially loves Carter’s board!
You can follow Carter on Instagram and contact him for custom orders there.

Our special ‘maker mention’ today is my friend Kerry Engel of Engelbelle Designs. One random winner will be chosen from the comments and receive a package of Kerry’s beautiful hand dyed ribbons.

Hi I’m Kerry Engel, I’m a creative educator and mojo maker. I love mixed media and have had a life long love of photography and memory keeping.

This summer, cloistered in my home in the North Saskatchewan River Valley I embarked on a self-directed, textile-science class.  It started simple enough with an Amur Cherry tree, then Raspberries, Saskatoon berries and then, wait, “are those Chokecherries and Sea Buckthorn behind the fence?”

The North Saskatchewan River Valley in Alberta, Canada is a foragers dream. Every week a new berry ripens offering a new opportunity to cook up prairie hues.

I soak my cotton fabric in a soy milk mordant two times, drying it completely in-between soakings. Then, the fabric is boiled in a berry dye for an hour and hung to dry again in the prairie sun.

I learned  quickly that the colour of the berry did not always reflect the colour of the fabric in the end. I’ve watched the bright berries turn to gorgeous shades of pink and grey as they move from my dyeing pot to my clothes line. No two batches were the same.

The dyed fabric is made into ribbon. It is hand ripped in generous 2.5 cm strips. They vary in length from 43-46 cm (around 17 inches).  Each batch of ribbons looks a little different from the next.  I’ve also created a ribbon line in brighter hues, using pigment dyes, to round out my collection.

The ribbons make the prettiest bows and the colours combine beautifully. They are perfect for tags, cards and snippet rolls.

The production of these ribbons has been a journey of curiosity. It totally sparked my creative mojo. I love to use just bit and pieces and the strings to add depth to my mixed media and cards too.

Find Kerry’s online shop HERE , as well as Facebook and Instagram @engelbelle
