For me, each week is a fresh start. Mondays are a time to think about what I can accomplish and how the next 7 days will look. But when I say this, I don’t mean that I have to hustle and do ‘all the things.’ Sometimes we have to ‘be brave’ and say “I am going to rest. I am going to take care of myself. I will look after my health.” Our society pushes us to crush goals and work work work. It takes courage to say no to people and events that cause more stress than we need in our lives.
I lettered ‘be brave’ with my Kelly Creates Turquoise Dream pen. Did you know that this is the most popular colour in my original ‘Rainbow’ Dream Pen set? I layered the same ink on top of the thick downstrokes to create some dimension. (Download is at end of post)
Then I practice on my worksheet with my Kelly Creates Midnight Dream pen (large tip) and used the Medium Black brush pen for the smaller lettering. I added a flourish at the end of the e in ‘brave’ but you can leave it off it you’re a beginner.
If you’re new here, then welcome and thanks for dropping by! You can find out more about how to start learning calligraphy as a beginner by clicking HERE. It’s a good idea to learn your ABCs before you start writing words. Jumpstart your skills with my Kelly Creates Beginner Kit, which has everything you need to learn to write with a brush pen…and it’s suitable for all ages!
You can use both large and small brush pens to trace the words, such as the Kelly Creates Dream pens and the Multicolor Small Brush pens. Another good choice for pens is the Deluxe Lettering kit and the 3-pack of Black brush pens too.
All are available in my online store at http://www.KellyCreatesStore.com (we ship international) or you can click HERE to see where to purchase my products at retailers around the world.
You also need to print on smooth paper like the Kelly Creates Blank paper pad (which you can put through your printer) or HP LaserJet Premium 32 lbs. or use tracing paper(Canson Marker paper) on top of regular copy paper, which is too rough for brush tips and will damage them.
After you finish tracing, practice your freehand skills on my super smooth Kelly Creates Paper Pads. I highly recommend using the Dotted or Lined pads (never practice on blank paper).
