This week’s free printable lettering worksheet is perfect for beginners! If you’re new to hand lettering, you are probably worried about shaky hands. Well, at Halloween, having shaky strokes can actually enhance your lettering. Uneven lines will make this quote look even better!
Even though the photo makes the colour look quite red, I painted with the Kelly Creates Orange Watercolor Ink. Then I dropped in my Black Watercolor Ink while the letters were still wet. Both Orange and Black inks are in the “Warm” Set of inks.
Black ink can easily overtake EVERYTHING so use very, very little on your brush. Just drop a little and push it around and let it dry. Then watch the spooky blending happen!
The tricky part is having a light touch when painting the swirls at the beginning and end points of the letters. You might want to practice on scrap paper first just using the tip of your lettering brush.

You can print this out on regular copy paper and paint directly on it or paint on a piece of tracing paper on top.

Can’t find my brand of watercolour inks? You can also use this Ecoline set too!
Another option for liquid watercolor inks is the Dr. Ph Martins ‘Hydrus’ Set 1 (there are 3 sets of different colours). And remember you need a palette with wells to use these liquid watercolours.
To practice painting letters freehand, use the heavyweight smooth Kelly Creates Grid Paper pad. (Never practice on blank paper).
To learn more about watercolor lettering, read my book The Art of Watercolor Lettering and use my workbooks, inks and supplies from the Kelly Creates AMAZON Storefront or from KellyCreatesStore.com.
