The outer covering is made up of semolina and the inner filling is stuffed with dessicated coconut, sugar and crushed dry fruits .
The shape of this fried pastry is like half moon.

We can buy it outside the church after the nine nights mass before Christmas.

We have an equivalent of alcoholic eggnog called “Ponche Crema”. We make ‘hallacas’ which are similar to tamales and a rolled bread made with ham and green olives, called “Pan de Jamon”.

I may mention this in another comment but it is a family tradition that on Christmas day I head up to Plant City, Florida and see my cousins and family. My aunt and uncle own a strawberry farm so we always go picking and bring back loads of strawberries. Sometimes we even make our own jam!

December 19, 2017 at 7:37 am (7 years ago)Okay – you’re gonna think I’m nuts but my favorite food related item for Christmas is what every meal I order from Danny’s restaurant on Christmas Eve. 10 years ago we realized we had a Christmas day feast planned but nothing for Christmas Eve. Most restaurants are closed (as they should be!) on Christmas Eve, but not Denny’s! We went to Denny’s and it has become a Christmas eve tradition. Weird but fun! The grandkids love it.

Crack is made with a layer of saltine crackers covered with a caramel that hardens and topped with melted chocolate. It is kept in the refrigerator and is delicious.
