Here is Rose Kurmann’s ( @littlemissrose ) tropical journal tutorial:
This one-page weekly layout for your bullet journal is quick and easy to do. You can make it as simple or as fancy as you want by adding colour and/or doodles.
For this layout you will need:
- A journal/notebook
- A circle stencil
- Pencil and eraser – from the Kelly Creates Deluxe Lettering Kit
- Kelly Creates Fineliners – black
- Kelly Creates Fineliners – Multicolours
- Kelly Creates Black brush pen set
- Kelly Creates Brush Multicolor Small Brush pens
Using a pencil, make a centre line down the middle of your page then using a stencil with circle shapes draw 7 small circles (I’ve used a Helix Metric Circles Template). Alternate the circles so that one is just to the left of the line, then one to the right.
Trace smaller circles within the ones you have just created, making sure that one side of the smaller circle is touching the corresponding side of a larger circle to form a “crescent” shape. You want the pointy parts of your crescent to point to the centre of the page.
Next, using a Kelly Creates fineliner (I’ve used a size 03), trace over the circles you just drew, making sure to stop where the lines intersect so that you have a crescent shape. The Kelly Creates black Fineliner set has 6 pens in different sizes.
Create a larger crescent shape in the top left-hand corner of your page, this will be for your heading.
If you aren’t confident in your hand-lettering, use a pencil to draft out your heading, and also add the letters for the weekdays within the crescents as below. (Kelly’s Deluxe Lettering kit has pencil, eraser, ruler, black Fineliners and brush pens for all your hand lettering projects)
When you are happy with your headings, use a Kelly Creates brush pen to create your headings. Here I have used the Bold black brush pen for the main heading across the top of the page, and a Fine black brush pen for the days of the week.
Now you can add colour and doodles! I’ve used Kelly Creates Multicolor Small brush pen in “Sunshine” to colour in the crescents. I’m after a summery vibe for this layout, so I decided to decorate this page with pineapples and tropical leaves.
After drawing the pineapples and leaves in pencil, I used Kelly Creates Fineliners to ink in my doodles. I’ve used the colours “Meadow” and “sunshine”.
Once you’ve finished adding colour to your page, erase your pencil marks and add in your events, appointments and tasks. I’ve also added the dates next to the weekdays just to make my weekly page easier to use. Your simple weekly layout is ready to go!
If you want to draw the same pineapples and tropical leaves as I’ve drawn, here is a simple tutorial to help you get started.
