Chasity (@chiciscreative) has some really cute, crafty ideas about how to use Kelly Creates pens, stamps and paper to design table settings for your home decor at Thanksgiving. You could also modify this idea for any special occasion!

Thanksgiving is upon us in the United States! Thanksgiving to me is the perfect time to let family know how much we love them by adding special personalized touches to the table settings. My husband does all the cooking for Thanksgiving, (one lucky girl right here!) so I like to add some creative DIY to the décor, but also do it inexpensively. With Kelly Creates products, I can quickly design wonderful table settings for any occasion.
First, I purchased some inexpensive linen placemats from Amazon, but you could also use large pieces of paper or card stock as placemats instead. Using the Kelly Creates Dream Pen Bark (the smaller tip) I lettered “Thanksgiving 2019” on the placemats. TIP: Lettering on cloth can damage brush tip pens. You can also use a Kelly Creates Fineliner.
This is a simple cursive script style. I liked that the year was recorded, for a personal touch, but could be left off and the placemats could be used again. If you’re feeling adventurous, leave some pens on the table and let guests write what they are thankful for right on the placemats! It would be fun to see how it changes from year to year.
Next, to create the napkin wrap, I took a piece of Kraft card stock from the Kelly Creates Project pad, which has black, white and kraft paper, and cut it to 4” x 8.5”. Using the same “Bark” Kelly Creates Dream Pen from the Meadow set 2, I brush lettered the word “gather.”
You could also write the guests’ names to personalize the place settings even more.
A super simple shading technique is to brush letter the word or name; then with the same color, go back over and “shade” the upper or lower part of the letters.
Then I grabbed the leaf stamp from the Kelly Creates Floral Stamp Set and the acrylic stamping block from the Kelly Creates Ink Pad & Block set. I wanted to add some decorative details to the napkin wrap. So that everything matched perfectly, I used Kelly Creates Dream Pen Bark to “ink” the stamp, and stamped the Kraft Paper.
TIP: Use the side of the brush tip to add ink to the stamp every time you stamp with it.
Next, I scored the kraft paper on each end so I could fold the wrap around my linen napkins. Measure your napkin before scoring to make sure you have a perfect fit. You can add the silverware in there as well to finish off the look. Place this on a charger of choice (these can be found at most craft stores, and dollar stores at a great value).
Mini Pumpkins are perfect for the Thanksgiving Table décor. I cut tags from the same kraft card stock in the Project Pad and then brush lettered names onto them. With twine, these are tied onto the mini pumpkins so everyone will know just where sit, and feel extra special. The guests can take these home with them!
You could also repeat the leaf stamp on the tag and placemat to pull it all together. I chose to keep mine a little simpler, but there are so many ways to creatively dress up your table without spending more! I’ll venture to bet you have most of this in your stash already!
I didn’t want to forget about the kids table. I want them to feel special too, and also have something to occupy them while dinner is finishing up, so I designed a turkey ‘colouring’ paper placemat. It’s also a cute little keepsake!
I started with a kraft Paper Roll and cut it into pieces for placemats. I sketched out a cute turkey the kids can color. I started with the pencil from the Deluxe Lettering Kit, and then used the Kelly Creates Fine Brush Pen Midnight to outline the turkey. You could also outline with a Kelly Creates Black Fineliner.
Then I went back and erased the pencil lines with the clickable eraser in the Deluxe Lettering kit.
Next, I lettered “I’m Thankful For…” at the top with the same Midnight Fine Brush Pen. I thickened my strokes with a faux calligraphy technique, and I added the white accents with the Kelly Creates Moonlight Marker.
Quickly I drew some lines on either side of the turkey with the Ruler and Small Brush Tip Marker for the kids to write what they are thankful for.
With the left over kraft paper, I created wraps for the glass jars and paper straws to add some fun to the table kids table! I lettered on them with the Kelly Creates Fine Black Brush Pen.
Whether you are setting a sophisticated table, or a fun whimsical table, Kelly Creates products are wonderful for adding some simple lettering flair to your table!
