Fall home décor and party decorations often includes pumpkins, especially for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Decorations and party ideas for the season can include hand lettering, and pumpkins are a fun way to use your calligraphy skills.
I designed 4 pumpkins… 3 real and one black plastic pumpkin…. and wrote on them with a variety of pens and used different techniques. These pumpkins make wonderful party decorations too.
For the hand lettering on the “Boo” and “Gather” real pumpkins, I used a Marvy Uchida Le Plume Alcohol brush marker, a Marvy Uchida DecoColor Silver paint pen, and a white Sharpie extra fine tip water-based paint pen. (All supplies are listed at the end of this post with shopping links).
On this black plastic pumpkin (bought in a craft store), I used two Marvy Uchida silver DecoColor paint pens (large chisel tip and small bullet tip). I also designed this free printable tracing sheet for you to practice your hand lettering (you can use a large brush pen or any marker to draw “Trick or Treat”). Click on the image below to download and print the free Halloween sheet. It is an 8.5 x 11″ pdf file.
This elegant “Fall” white pumpkin hand lettering is an easy embossing technique using a Tsukineko Versamarker embossing pen and ColorBox Gold Sparkle embossing powder (affiliate shopping links are listed below in the Supplies). I also added shadows with a permanent black alcohol ink Chameleon Pen.
I actually haven’t done hand lettering on pumpkins before and sometimes I think I should leave the paper behind more often when I do calligraphy. For party decorations and home décor during the Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays, these pumpkins are wonderful!
Here is my YouTube video tutorial for you to watch how all of these pumpkins are designed with hand lettering.
