This year, Mother’s Day brings me joy and sadness. Last August, my mother passed away at the age of 88.
The loss is felt more deeply on special occasions, like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, which we always celebrated with my mom. And now Mother’s Day arrives.
I will hold my children, tell them how much I love them, and we will talk about their grandmother and share our stories. Grieving never ends, but love overcomes it.
My mom was the one to encourage crafting, art and creativity. Because of her, I began scrapbooking, putting keepsakes and photos in albums when I was a little girl. Because of her, I was teaching summer craft classes to the neighbourhood kids when I was 10. Even though my mom never did the Ukrainian arts of cross stitch and pysanky (Easter eggs), she enrolled me in our church classes to learn….and I loved every minute of it.
So….thank you, Mom. I love you.
I designed a card, sweet and simple, for you to download, print and colour (or not) to give to your mothers. Click HERE to download the card, or click the image below.
This drawing started out as an Instagram video, but after I finished it, I thought why not make it into a card too. I sketch with a number of black markers, and the bullet nib end of the Tombow N15 Dual Brush is really nice. I like the size of the line and the way it glides on paper.
A special gift idea for your mom is the “Fearless” digital print I have in my Shop. Only $8 to download and print today, plus half the proceeds go towards The Starfish Project. If you’re on a budget, pop into a Dollar Store and pick up an 8×10″ frame. For a grand total of $10 and you have a lovely Mother’s Day gift including a free card. I think the words in this drawing perfectly describe mothers, don’t you? Click HERE to see the print in my Shop and learn more about it.
Or you could give your mother the gift of creativity, relaxation and beautiful writing with a set of my practice worksheets. Bundle 1 is for large brush pens, and Bundle 2 is for small brush pens. Click on each photo below to see it in my Shop.
For either of these sets of worksheets, the Tombow Lettering set is the perfect gift. Click HERE or on the photo below, which is my affiliate shopping link at Tombow, to learn more about it. This set has both large and small brush pens!
For a gift of colour and creativity, my watercolor brush lettering worksheets are just wonderful! Click HERE or on the photo below to see these worksheets in my Shop.
There are lots of watercolor options to go along with these watercolor worksheets and one of the best products is liquid watercolor like Ph Martins Hydrus. Here is an affiliate shopping link for them as well as a Sakura waterbrush I love. Just click the images to see them in Amazon.
Finally, I can’t help but mention the exciting upcoming release of my new instructional book (that includes tracing guides) The Art of Brush Lettering. Although you won’t be able to give it to your mom for a few months because the release date is this December, you can pre-order it for her. Click HERE or the book cover below, which is my affiliate shopping link on Amazon. You can also find my book available for pre-order at Chapters Indigo in Canada and Barnes & Noble too!
I hope you enjoy a beautiful Mother’s Day with those you love.

May 22, 2017 at 7:24 pm (6 years ago)Thank you for sharing about your Mom! I love the photo of you two. She reminds me of my mom (who will be 83 next month). She was also the one to get me into crafting … when I was about 21.
Hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day with your children. 🙂
