As you know, Maui has been on my mind a great deal. I decided to practice painting this island name to help bring awareness to the devastation of the wildfires and those impacted.
I couldn’t decide which colours to use. I ended up painting with Kelly Creates Teal and Rose watercolour inks. It is a pretty combo and reminds me of mermaids.
But I will admit that I didn’t like any of the other versions I lettered! And that’s ok! It’s good to remember that we won’t always like our artistic results. That doesn’t mean to stop trying, but instead to keep going!
Please consider donating to any of these charitable organizations who are helping the people of Maui in the aftermath of the fires: Maui United Way, Hawaii Community Foundation, Maui Food Bank, Maui Red Cross.

Can’t find my brand of watercolour inks? You can also use this Ecoline set too!
Another option for liquid watercolor inks is the Dr. Ph Martins ‘Hydrus’ Set 1 (there are 3 sets of different colours). And remember you need a palette with wells to use these liquid watercolours.
To practice painting letters freehand, use the heavyweight smooth Kelly Creates Grid Paper pad. (Never practice on blank paper).
To learn more about watercolor lettering, read my book The Art of Watercolor Lettering and use my workbooks, inks and supplies from the Kelly Creates AMAZON Storefront or from KellyCreatesStore.com.
