Aloha! Today’s free practice worksheet is dedicated to Maui. I have enjoyed beautiful vacations on Maui and Oahu. Just this past February, I was walking the streets of Lahaina and having a wonderful time on the island.
The devastation left behind by the wildfires on Maui is horrific. I hope this post spreads awareness of the many ways you can donate to help those impacted by this tragedy. Here are a few agencies that are organizing aid for Maui:
Maui United Way Hawaii Community Foundation Maui Food Bank Maui Red Cross
The word ‘Aloha’ is so lovely to write with brush pens. All the curvy ovals and loops give this word elegant movement. Did you know the Hawaiian language has 13 letters? They are A, E, H, I, K, L, M, N, O, P, U, W. So if you want to practice words with lots of vowels and few consonants, then try writing some Hawaiian words! HINT: Look up their state fish name!
I actually wrote ‘Aloha’ first with only the Turquoise Dream pen, but thought it needed something, so I added a shadow with the Grape small brush pen.
You’re lucky if you have the original set of Kelly Creates small brush pens with the Grape pen because they are now discontinued. You can still find the original Rainbow Dream pen set though. Plus, there are 2 purple ink colours in the second set of Multicolor Brush pens, so the shadow could be ‘Orchid’ too.

If you’re new to brush lettering, you can find out more about how to start learning calligraphy as a beginner by clicking HERE. It’s a good idea to learn your ABCs before you start writing words. Jumpstart your skills with my Kelly Creates Workbook for Large Brush Pens, Deluxe Lettering Kit and Smooth Practice Paper pad, which is suitable for all ages!
You can use both large and small brush pens to trace the words, such as the Kelly Creates Dream pens and the Multicolor Small Brush pens. Another good choice for pens is the Deluxe Lettering kit and the 3-pack of Black brush pens too. (You can also order most of my lettering supplies from my Amazon Storefront).
All are available in my online store at www.KellyCreatesStore.com (only USA shipping) or you can click HERE to see where to purchase my products at retailers around the world.
You also need to print on smooth paper like HP LaserJet Premium 32 lbs. or use tracing paper(Canson Marker paper) on top of regular copy paper, which is too rough for brush tips and will damage them.
After you finish tracing, practice your freehand skills on my super smooth Kelly Creates Paper Pads. I highly recommend using the Dotted or Lined pads (never practice on blank paper).
