It’s July! Right now we are experiencing a heat wave where I live in western Canada, which is quite rare for us. Luckily we have air conditioning to get through these hot temps.
Because of the heat outside, I chose 2 ‘fiery’ Kelly Creates Watercolor Inks from Set 1 to paint “July” (Poppy and Orange) and used my Kelly Creates Size 2 Lettering Brush with my palette.
This week we are going to work on the curly scrolls on our serifs and practice control by painting with a light touch and the tip of our paint brush. You can practice these strokes on the Kelly Creates Watercolor Grid Paper Pad.
Here is my YouTube video tutorial about painting the word “July” in 2 styles.
For more detailed instructions about learning watercolour lettering, I highly recommend my book The Art of Watercolor Lettering.
As well, using the and supplies will really help improve your skills.
For the block lettering style of my “July” sample, I practiced with the Kelly Creates Block Lettering Watercolor Workbook.
