Bonnie Peters (@diamondandwillow) always creates beautiful quote designs, and today she is sharing an awesome alphabet hand lettering style for you to try.
Kelly Creates Supplies: Dotted Practice Pad, Deluxe Lettering Kit, Multicolor Small Brush Pens, Black Fineliner 03, Multicolor Fineliners
Using a sheet of dotted paper from the Kelly Creates Practice Pad, I lightly penciled in an alphabet. It is a fairly basic block style of lettering, the only difference is adding a spur in the middle of the left side of each letter stem.
I took the 03 Black Fineliner and outlined all the letters.
Using a Kelly Creates Multicolour Small brush pen, I added a bold line along the left edge of the block.
By changing the pressure on the brush tip as you near the point of the spur, you get some variations in the line width, just as you do with brush script.
You can use the same colour for the entire alphabet or you can vary colours with brush pens, as shown below in W, X, Y, Z.
Another couple of options would be using coloured fineliners in the same shade as the brush pens or you could just use the fineliner to thicken the one line instead of the brush pen.
As with all things, if you practice with a brush pen, you will be able to use it skillfully for this technique. Plus, you can combine your brush calligraphy with this hand lettering style and design beautiful projects using quotes. For a final good copy of your quote, use the super smooth card stock in the Kelly Creates Project Pad.
Thank you, Bonnie, for showing us how to make a simple hand lettering style look WOW using these techniques and Kelly Creates pens. I will also be trying this style in my bullet journal and planners!
