Leftovers and junk food. Because my kids are from blended families, we celebrate with one family in traditional Ukrainian Christmas style, and our “Christmas Day” meal is a turkey dinner with all the fixings on the first day everyone is home from their other commitments ??

For Christmas, my family always use to have Turkey & Dressing. When my passed away not long ago, my Mom was diagnosed with dementia & a neurological disorder. So we all had to learn to make the Turkey & Dressing as Mom did. My Mom has grown worse this year, requiring more of my care. This Christmas we are just having some small finger foods.

Our family switches our meals every year, as my son is our grilling chef master. This year he is grilling Salmon and Trout as appetizer with a mixture of squash and zucchini on the side. Then the main meal will be grilled BBQ Chicken, Mac&Cheese, Green Beans, Corn on the Cob, Slaw, and Yeast Rolls. Dessert will be an assortment of Christmas cookies and a Red Velvet Cake.

I usually serve a turkey breast with mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli, with dressing and cranberries as we are a small group. This year, however, my nephew’s three young children will be with us for our noon meal so I will be making a maple-glazed ham with honey-glazed carrots and garlic mashed potatoes. We will also have lots of baked goods around for dessert. We also get together with my brother and his family after Christmas when my brother always traditionally buys us all a feed of Chinese food.

Normally, our Christmas dinner always includes ham, chicken and rice, chicken salad, rolls, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, turkey, and a variety of desserts including blueberry bubble, German chocolate cake, cherries jubilee, chocolate chip cookies, friendship bread, and sometimes punchbowl cake. But this year might be something like bouillabaisse because we’ll be in Montreal for Christmas!!

Grown, but still good boys! They are both chipping in with a salad and appetizer and my neice with her own selection of baking. Thank goodness, I need a rest, I’m tired – LOL! It’s just wonderful when the family can all be together.
