April Sketchy Challenge Layout

Have you ever thought that sometimes simple is better?  When I sat down to design a layout for the Bazzill blog, I felt stuck. It was after Spring Break, and I hadn’t been scrapping for a couple of weeks! yikes. So I pulled out the current April sketch from Sue Sykes for Canadian Scrapbooker and inspiration hit!

I followed the sketch pretty closely with the circles and decided to add the punched butterflies for a tone on tone effect with pastel cardstock colours. I cut out the different sizes of circles with my Brother ScanNCut. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of tone on tone, especially with white. This layout surprised me. I thought it might be a little boring without ANY patterned paper, but I came to love the fresh simplicity of it and the soft colours.

The photos are another story. So my youngest daughter, affectionately known on my blog as “BabyOfTheFamily,” has a Fujii Instax camera, which shoots out these mini polaroid pics. Fun! She puts a lot of them up on her wall.  So I popped into her bedroom and saw these two and thought “YES!”

But she had the last laugh.  When she saw those photos, she said, “You don’t remember that day, do you?” Well, one spring day last year, she had two friends sleepover. And they decided to stay up ALL night so they could climb out her window and then watch the sunrise from our ROOF!  I discovered them getting back into their room because I heard noise outside and decided to investigate.  NOT a happy mom! And she was grounded for quite awhile.

Now I have immortalized that awful morning on a scrapbook page! ha ha ha

Actually, the message I want to send to her is “Let Your Light Shine Everyday,” which can be a challenge to girls in Junior High.  And the other message is “STAY OFF THE ROOF SO YOU DON’T FALL AND BREAK YOUR NECK!”
