My daughter and I try to make gifts for our dearest friends every year. One year – I, being a beginner sewer – teaching myself, make placemats for them. They were far from perfect – but she still uses them. One day, I will make new ones to replace them. We have made many gifts for them over they years. Handmade gifts are the best. From the heart. Thanks

She made me a picture frame with all pretty colors and lots of glitter and then made me a handmade heart with my name written in it in glitter. She lost a hand knit afghan in a fire made by our mother who had passed away a few years later. How WONDERFUL you now have stamps! I have tried and failed so many times to learn how to do write so beautifully. I am visually impaired but recently got one of the new Clarity light pads that are out. One reason was to learn by tracing. I wanted to take your class when you were in Edmonton in September but knew I probably wouldn’t be able to see enough. Thank you for the new stamps and I look forward to getting some of your books also. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I have given scrapbooks but one year I bought a big 16” round paver and mosaic tiles which I broke into pieces. Glued and grouted a pattern of white crescent moon, cobalt blue sky and yellow stars. I wrapped and put under tree and it was so heavy! Lots of laughs everyone trying to guess what it was! She loved it in her front yard flower bed. ❤️ (She passed a few years later at 60)

I made a three photo picture frame for my little brother (he’s now 11). I rarely see him due to my relationship with our dad and his mom. I put pictures of our memories inside and decorated the frame. It felt wonderful seeing his room and it hung up on the wall a few years after I made it.

My favourite handmade Christmas gift, was when I was about 10 years old, my Grandmother sewed hand made Barbie doll outfits, including real fur Stoles, for my sister and I. She did an incredibly job and I spent hours changing my Barbie Dolls’ outfit!! Wish I had kept them!

Wow…I have made so many from stockings to all kinds ornaments to jewellery…mini albums or scrapbook pages that commemorate the life or an event of someone I love, would have to be the most important. One example…a photo of my Grandfather dressed up as a mall Santa from 1990 I scrapped for my grandmother…he died in 1992. The importance of sharing our thoughts and feelings surrounding loved ones should always be an open discussion and scrapping these people helps to open those conversations!

I was telling my husband the other day that my favorite gift at Christmas was my mom sewing each of me and my 2 sisters an outfit. She would hide away in her sewing room and sew until late in the night, making sure we didn’t know what she was making. She was an accomplished seamstress! I’m sure it was because we had hard times and couldn’t afford bought clothes but it was the best present ever! That’s been over 50 years ago and still makes me happy!

I received a beautiful handmade card from a student this year. It was watercolor painted and absolutely gorgeous. There was so much detail put into painting a tree with ornaments, a cat laying in front of a fire place, etc. She thought she did such a poor job on it, but I couldn’t stop telling her how wonderful it was. It made her day to hear that I loved the card so much.

By September, I make the soaps so they can cure (loose all their water weight and get hard), lotions and bath salts come next, and bath fizzes last. A month before Christmas, I send them their personalized gift.

When I was about 13 my Aunt knit me a wine coloured cowl neck sweater with a matching toque for Christmas. I loved that outfit.

One Christmas, I couldn’t think of what to get my Uncle and Aunt and I was quite broke too. So I bought two photo frames from IKEA, painted over the wood. I drew two pictures: one of my Uncle and his 3 daughters as Charlie’s Angels and another of my Aunt and the girls in Chinese cheongsam. They loved them!

Every year the siblings do a secret Santa since there’s a lot of us and grows as we add spouses. One year my baby brother made me a calendar using photos from my Instagram that corresponded with that month. It had been my first year living abroad and was like a scrap book in calendar form. It was so thoughtful and I still have 5 years later. Next month I’m actually moving back to the US and it’s now an even more valuable keepsake S I say bye to the place I called home for 51/2 years.

One year, my husband and I painted ornaments together. I’d like to learn how to use my Cameo to cut out some vinyl (I’ve had it in the box for a year – don’t judge??‍♀️). I also would like to improve my watercolor and lettering skills so I can letter my favorite quotes. As far as gifts for others, I made my mom a huge crochet Afghan that lives in her closet. I’m working on a couple of scarves for some teachers I work with.

Do cards count? They’re the best gift I can give to my friends because they’re super easy to make and yet, when I give them, my teachers and friends smile at me like I’ve given them the best guft ever! And I smile like I had just gotten through an awesome book!

I make Christmas cards together with my sisters, paintings on canvas and various decorations, but one year (long time ago) we had a white Christmas and I made a love couple of penguins-snowmen for my parents, they didn’t last long but it is a great memory and we still have it on pictures.
