Leftovers and junk food. Because my kids are from blended families, we celebrate with one family in traditional Ukrainian Christmas style, and our “Christmas Day” meal is a turkey dinner with all the fixings on the first day everyone is home from their other commitments 🎄😎

For Christmas, my family always use to have Turkey & Dressing. When my passed away not long ago, my Mom was diagnosed with dementia & a neurological disorder. So we all had to learn to make the Turkey & Dressing as Mom did. My Mom has grown worse this year, requiring more of my care. This Christmas we are just having some small finger foods.

Our family switches our meals every year, as my son is our grilling chef master. This year he is grilling Salmon and Trout as appetizer with a mixture of squash and zucchini on the side. Then the main meal will be grilled BBQ Chicken, Mac&Cheese, Green Beans, Corn on the Cob, Slaw, and Yeast Rolls. Dessert will be an assortment of Christmas cookies and a Red Velvet Cake.

    December 20, 2017 at 6:11 am (3 months ago)

I usually serve a turkey breast with mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli, with dressing and cranberries as we are a small group. This year, however, my nephew’s three young children will be with us for our noon meal so I will be making a maple-glazed ham with honey-glazed carrots and garlic mashed potatoes. We will also have lots of baked goods around for dessert. We also get together with my brother and his family after Christmas when my brother always traditionally buys us all a feed of Chinese food.

    December 20, 2017 at 6:15 am (3 months ago)

We usually have a ham or a turkey (sometimes both), mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, bread, and plenty of pie!

Normally, our Christmas dinner always includes ham, chicken and rice, chicken salad, rolls, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, turkey, and a variety of desserts including blueberry bubble, German chocolate cake, cherries jubilee, chocolate chip cookies, friendship bread, and sometimes punchbowl cake. But this year might be something like bouillabaisse because we’ll be in Montreal for Christmas!!

We have gotten away from traditional! Now we do easy & make ahead meals BUT ALWAYS DELICIOUS.

There’s a prediction of a possibility of snow &/or frigid weather here in OK this year, so maybe chili & potato soup with brisket sandwiches.

I’m so excited for your products, Kelly! In years past, my husband and I would spend the holidays with my in-laws and we would definitely eat the traditional Christmas dinner. This year, my husband and I moved away from our families and we’ll be winging our own dinner… maybe grilling or doing a crockpot dinner, ha! 🙂

Since it’s just my husband, mom, and myself, a whole Turkey for Christmas dinner would be way too much food. So we buy a breast, a leg, and add the usual trimmings, along with a meat pie.

Wow, after reading what everyone else does I am feeling rather traditional. The basic turkey dinner with potatoes, Brussels sprouts, candied yams, peas and carrots (for those who seems to hate Brussels sprouts) of course gravy and stuffing. Followed by whatever I have baked for dessert.

Our Christmas dinner is often a do-again of our Thanksgiving dinner: roast turkey, herb stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, roasted sweet potatoes, ambrosia salad, cranberries, and a pickle and olive tray. We have fairly often added or subbed a ham, in which case an uber-sweet pineapple dressing is also added. Cannot forget the pumpkin, apple, and pecan pies with sweet vanilla whipped cream! Everything from scratch.

I celebrate Christmas at my Uncle’s place. In Malaysia, we celebrate Christmas by inviting friends and family for lunch/dinner. We must have roast turkey with cranberry and giblet sauce. The rest of the food is a mix bag of Asian (mutton and chicken biryani) and Western (pasta salad, loaded mashed potatoes etc).

We don’t traditionally have Christmas dinner. We have a buffet type brunch between Christmas stockings and opening presents. Bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, egg casserole, and usually something sweet as well. We usually start grazing upon arrival and continue throughout the morning until everyone starts leaving around noon or so.

With our parents gone for 30 years now my Sister and I have kept the same tradition we grew up with. My last dinner was for 26 and then we switched to my sister’s house because she had 3 small kids. We have shared in the preparation of dinner ever since. Mom was Ukrainian and so I am the head cabbage roll maker always! We always had turkey mostly but now that her kids are grown and have friends sometimes she does a ham and we have contributions from the kids and we call this dinner a “potluck”. No luck involved because we tell everyone what to bring – LOL! No matter the food it is just special that everyone be together and we are all happy.

My father’s family usually has grilled pork, beef, shrimp, and salmon. His wife loves corn on the cob and makes deviled eggs. She also makes some of her usual dishes like tofu, eggs and tomato, shredded potato or cabbage in sauces I don’t know the name of.

What I am really looking forward to is hot pot for the new year.

I consider myself very lucky that I don’t have to cook or serve a meal at Christmas! Since there are only two of us in a tiny apartment, we never end up hosting. I suppose small spaces have some perks. 😉 I always contribute dessert for all occasions, and Christmas is no exception. So far I have made sugar cookies, and shortbread. I plan on making gingerbread and empire cookies on the weekend.

This year our Christmas dinner will be a roasted ham with potatoes and I requested my Sister make Mom’s Baked Beans. Of course ANY dinner we have together I am the head cabbage roll (or holopgee) maker and continue making them just as our Mom did. I am bringing a host of desserts, marinated and roasted turkey breasts – nobody knows that one yet, I just told them “mystery meat” but have I ever failed you? “Not once Aunty” my nephews say – LOL! Grown, but still good boys! They are both chipping in with a salad and appetizer and my neice with her own selection of baking. Thank goodness, I need a rest, I’m tired – LOL! It’s just wonderful when the family can all be together.
